What is your position on pornography? It is legally protected expression. Would you limit the protection?

Pornography to me, is damaging the lives of young people, destroying marriages, producing false views of sex and beauty, and degrading women. The pornography industry has increased rapidly, and this weakened moral and public standards that have traditionally stood opposed to pornography. These has caused its effects to become even more widespread, making proper teaching about pornography a necessity in some countries.

Family Safe Media reports that child pornography generates $3 billion annually. A survey by The Barna Group in 2003 found that nationally 38% of adults believed there was nothing immoral about looking at pornography, and the same survey found that almost 50% of people ages 18-38 believed looking at pornography was not immoral.

The combination of technical innovations that allow what was once produced and accessed in homes and the mainstream cultural acceptance of sexual freedom have all contributed to pornography market. The Internet, cable television, and home videos are the effects of the underlying moral and cultural changes in society. These media outlets have allowed pornography to be distributed more widely throughout society and same goes to the changes in the morality of sex, entertainment, and modesty where pornography is widespread and often accepted.

By that, pornography in internet should be at least limited since it is impossible to bane it all at one time. In my opinion,it is best to gradually decrease the viewing of porn to a certain limit bit by bit and soon stop it at once. It is also best for us to protect ourselves by pornography no matter how strong we think our will power is. Protect our family by installing parental controls on television and computers, plus parent should be more aware of the websites, chat rooms and weblogs their children participate in. Moreover, protect our computer by installing internet filtering software such as Bsafe Online to prevent accessing pornographic material online.

  2. I don't think I will support the way you say because I think watching pornography or not is depends on each person. Some of the people might watch it everyday just like we eat everyday. Some of them don't even dare to watch because they think that is not necessary. However, like Jemerlyn said which is rude and unrespect to female student. If the female student didn't see the porn then she won't feel anything, right? Somehow, nobody ask them to watch in public. If can they just watch privately.

  3. As what commented above, it is indeed very rude to watch porn during lesson. And I do have the same thought that pornography makes women lesser that I personally think that it is like a harassment. But, if it is their (porn star) choice of living, then it is their freedom of choice.

  4. No doubt, to most girls, watching porn or even talking about sex topics will make them blush...but it is still an option for everyone whether to watch porn or not. Like what ZiSheng mentioned, if you wan to watch porn, watch privately..coz watching porn in public might offend some people.
