Video Game: Addiction and Violence

As a child being raise in this technology era, it is impossible not to being expose to the technology especially children that are born and raise in the city, jungle of bricks. As well, nowadays, it is a world that both mother and father are working people with having two children the most (generally), they have limited time to spend with their children. Children spends most of their time indoor. To keep them accompany and through peer influence, children demands their parents to buy the technology stuff, i.e. XBox, computer (for games), Play Station, etc. which the parents would rather fulfill their wishes than letting them go outdoor to get in touch with the nature as the parents think that the world nowadays there are a lot of crimes that could harm their precious children.

For that, after being exposed to the games, addiction may slowly creep in. Every level of game that they conquer, it brings more excitement to them and proudly brag their conquer to their peers. Then, it becomes a challenge and a topic of discussion for them to get in touch of their friends. Although, video games can stimulate the brain of the children on how to solve their problem and challenge them, but, when it becomes uncontrollable and affecting their normal life, it has become addiction to them. Therefore, parents should be by their children side when they are playing video games to control the time limit and type of games or to play along with them to create a quality time among the parent and children relationship. However, when it is said that video games install violence behavior in children, I would not totally agree on that because, violence was not first view in video games. Violence was already been exposed to through television since the early age of the children. For example, cartoons that has violence in it, Tom & Jerry, Popeye, Pokemon, Naruto, etc. Since being a toddler, children are attracted to sound and light from television. To keep the children accompany and still, parent let the children to watch television so that the parents can do their chores. Since then, the children has already been exposed to violence. Therefore, parents are a crucial on how the children are brought up and how much violence the children are exposed to.

  1. I agree with your point that parents are willing to fulfill any of their children's wishes in order to keep them indoor. Eventually, children spend so much time with video and computer games that it slowly became a routine and proceed to addiction and also violence. Their attitude in the real world will change and become who they are in the "world of games" and slowly forgetting their real self.

  2. Parents today are mostly with secure jobs so that means lots of work to be done even when they are back at home so spending time with their children could be less and limited. Children which came from siblings of 2 or 3, like myself, might feel lonely sometimes so to prevent this they tend to request for video games from their parents. Parents would somewhat agreed to this and they would play all day with their parents only peeping over once in a while. Even if they are allowed to play, parents should curb their children's playtime and try to scrutinize what they are playing just to make sure they are in safe hands.
