Rumors, lies and innuendo spread far, wide and fast on the Internet - 2

For centuries, people have always been rely their information and news through mainstream media; i.e. television, radio, newspaper, magazine. However, people these days has begun to shift to Internet to obtain the information they wanted to know. It is indeed that Internet is the fastest and cheapest medium to get the information and news. People is reading others' blogs or through social networks to know about life of a person or comments of an issue or products which they could not get from the mainstream media. Hence, people is trusting words from others more than the information from the mainstream media as in this information age, many people is noticing that there are information that the mainstream media is unable to send out or have been hided.

However, with its convenience and cost efficiency, everyone has become the editor of their own information and news. They can write whatever they want and with the anonymity in the Internet, some irresponsible user might or some that are paid to post up some comment in order to deteriorate the other party especially in politics or a competing organisation. Also, some might be using a photoshop to paste a celebrity's face in a nude body to attract people to their site. There are as well users who does not has the first-hand information exaggerate the news by just according to a picture to create a chaos or gossips in their website and is just to attract more reader.

For that, it is true that rumors, lies and innuendo spread in a lightning speed in Internet. But, there are some chances that there are some truth out there as well when there are also some truth that has been hiding from us as well by the mainstream. For whichever stream that we decide to trust on will be based on the readers or viewers belief and their own judgement.

(This is just my point of view for studies discussion.)

  1. I agree with the point that people no longer rely information and news via mainstream media because there are information that are hidden. Some home no longer subscribe newspapers. Students no longer watch TV. Old folks no longer listen to radio. All they have now is the Internet, which is obviously taking over the lives of people already. Information people obtain from the internet are more straight forward and frank. People are curious and always wanting to know more. Here comes the chance for people to fake news and start spreading rumours, lies and innuendo to fulfill the needs of people. It is really difficult for us to judge which information and news are real and which are fake.

  2. haha, im agree with the point with using photoshop. you remind me that most of the advertisment had edited before they show the public. i think this is a part of fake with using software and spread the fake effect to the public.

  3. ya, people dont rely much on good old fashion mainstream media anymore, at least from what i think, the mainstream has at least some filter and a little ounce of truth in it compared to the ones on the internet. it is due to this that people have somehow turned more 'gullible' or maybe even more 'dumb' to the hoaxes they read from the internet
