Rumors, lies and innuendo spread far, wide and fast on the Internet

No doubt, the Internet is a very powerful medium of communication which allows us to get in touch with anyone, anywhere, anytime just with a click. News, information, issues can be spread throughout the world within seconds. But are these news and information reliable? Are they really the truth? Which are rumors? Which are lies? Which are truth? No one knows.. It is up to us to believe what we believe is the truth.

Rumors, lies and innuendo spread far, wide and fast on the Internet. This is what people are busy with everyday. Creating news and writing own thoughts in blogs and forums, reading celebrity gossips, faking information about oneself on facebook and friendster, chatting in forums with fake identity, etc. People do not see it as a crime if you are lying on the Internet. No one can find out the truth. So, who cares.

Rumors probably have been around ever since human can speak. It will never stop spreading as long as people still can speak. From one mouth to another, news starts to change. People add sugar and spices to it while spreading. By the time the news get to you, you never know how the actual story was. Take the late Michael Jackson's death for example. Some say that he wasn't in his casket during the memorial service. Some say that he is already buried as a Muslim. Some say that his family is not going to bury him without his brain. With just only one incident, there can be so many different types of news. Again, which one to believe?

There's an article on this rumors spreading on internet matter. The title of the news is "Rumors move fast on Net's info superhighway". http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/examiner/article.cgi?year=1996&month=10&day=20&article=BUSINESS11506.dtl

I would say Internet is a very dangerous medium of communication. We have to be smart on choosing what to believe from what we read from it. Rumors, lies and innuendo spread real far, wide and fast on internet. Imagine from 1 to 10, 10 to 100, 100 to 1000 and the numbers go on and on. It can reach out to every tiny space on earth.

  1. I agree about what u said.. By the way, nowadays many people use fake identities to fool the others. Some of them even use it to create lies and rumours. This brought out a very big impact towards the sociaty. The rumours, lies and innuendo spread faster then any other medium compared to internet.

  3. It is so true that how are we able to differentiate the truth and lies. It will be up to our judgment based on our wisdom. As well, it is so true that ever since people is able to talk, gossips is the most topic people talk of and spices are added during the spreading of a gossip where people only see the spice.

  4. Yes, no doubt lies and rumours are everywhere on the internet. It is quite a scary medium and it might as well alter your sane mind. Be careful on what you read and see on the net, not all are real people!

  5. yupp, there's 1 case similiar to the late Michael Jackson's death, Heath Ledgers tragic accident. He died from consuming a wrong combination of medications.

Before the rulling of his death, many speculated on how he actually died and all. rumours were everywhere about Mary Kate Olsen linked to his death just because Mr. Ledger was living in the apartment owned by her. then there were rumours that he actually commited suicide from being too emotionally deep into his character as the Joker in 'Batman: The Dark Knight' and who knows there are many more rumours and assumptions.

when something happens, some people are just ready to conspire theories and people just easily believe them! like what fiona mentioned, 'from 1 to 10, 10 to 100, 100 to 1000 and the numbers go on and on. It can reach out to every tiny space on earth.' just by spreading word using the internet which can be really fast, people are brainwashed to take assumptions as definite conclusions.
