Hypercommercialism

Base on my understanding, hypercommercialism is a strategy of a company to sell their product. For example, some branded company would like to be the sponsor of a tv program such as drama or movies. Let's say McDonalds, since McDonalds sponsor the movie, we can see the McDonalds will become the selected restaurant and make it related to the story. If it is in a drama, the McDonalds advertisment will appear during the commercial break.

In my opinion, I think this is a smart choice to spread their advertisment because almost every home own a television especially who live in big city. This is because city people would like to watch tv to entertain themself. Besides, teenagers will easily influence by idol in the related tv program. One they saw the product was used by the actor, they will start to note on the prduct. In this case, the product is effectively sold to people. This is also can see from the human lifestyle

Sometimes, the commercial break during a drama is quite annoying. In fact, advertisment can bring the trend or information to the audience. Advertisment can keep the audience updated to the latest product and bring up the economies. This is what I feel after I had been living in Cyberjaya because I do not have tv with me. Now I become enjoy when looking at advertisment from television.

It is depends from different people and how they think about hypercommercial. Selling product through advertisment is good but it need people to think before they buy because some of them may be lousy product. We should not buy those product straight away because sometimes the advertisment looks good but their product may be lousy.

  1. I agree that teenagers are one of the main target of hypercommercialism. For example, cosmestic and fashion companies purposely embedded these goods in ads and movies to attract them to buy the products because teenagers are easily influenced by commercials.

  2. It is so true that teenagers are easily influenced. I, myself was one of them. There was a time that Japanese dramas was a hit in television here before the Korean dramas. I was so admired to the actresses and the actors in the movie having the clam-type mobile phone that wasn't available here. I wished I could go to Japan to buy one of those too.
