Do you find product placement and branded content as troublesome as do its critics? Why or why not?

What is 'Hypercommercialism' meant by? Based on what I know about 'Hypercommercialism', it means the inclination within capitalism that turning every single things into objects or services and sold out just for the purpose of gaining profits. Somehow, it talks about product placement. What is product placement actually? Based on my understanding, product placement is just like advertising which bringing the branded goods or services in the way of context such as movies, the main story line of the television programmes. For example, in the movie 'Transporter' we can see that the main character using the same best car, 'Audi A8 Sedan'. This is showing that the car is the best among the others. Even those 4 wheels drive cannot best that car in a way that is a bit fake.

Somehow, we still taking in as the audiences. Some of us might starting to believe it that it is true, some of us might think it is just a movie features, and some of them might think that it is awesome but they still do not fully believe it. Actually, this is just depends on a person's lifestyle or how the way they think. Some of them might get influence and some of them might not. Not only for movies and television's show but still games are still apply the theory. Besides, there are several example like the movie Casino Royale, there many Sony products throughout the while movie. By that, we can see that it is all about advertising, product placement and the main purpose of doing that is to let the audiences think that their Sony product are the best just like what I mentioned just now, the Audi.

Moreover, for foods and drinks categories, in Beetlejuice (1988), Minute Maid is displayed as a brand of juices and for Back to The Future, Pizza Hurt is there which can ordered and can to consume straight away. Not only that, even there are something for traveling section. airplane 707 appeared several times in James Bond's movie. The airline is the name of Pan Am. Somehow, there even product placement occur in tobacco. In the movie Licence to Kill by James Bond, they are using the brand Lark for cigarettes and the brand company accepted a payment for the advertising of their cigarettes in the movie.

As we can see, for overall, most of the branded company imply the product placement in movies, television shows, video games and the others just to influences the audiences. At the same time, the product placement also have the mean of critics to the other products or brands. The main purpose is just to influence the audiences. This is how they do things. Critic other products just to gaining trust for themselves in the society.

  1. sometimes, those advertisment in movies or tv is quite anonoying but without them we cant get the news or information of the latest product. since we like the movies, some audience may pay attention to the product and eventually they will buy those goods or the same brand product from the advertisment.

  2. I like your examples, ZiSheng. They are all very strong to proof that Huge companies use hypercommercialism to brain wash their audiences. I myself was flattered with Audi cars after watching the movie "Transporter". Whenever I'm on the road, I'll keep an eye on Audi cars. Just for admiration.

  3. I like the fact that you have lots of example to proof that hypercommercialism are widely used by brand names. Product placement has become a norm today. Like myself, I dont really know about the latest gadgets until they came out as product placement in movies as I often go to the cinema so basically without it, i'll be left behind.
